The Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid shares his experience with the Inter-American Development Bank

The Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid has been visited by a delegation from the Inter-American Development Bank. The organism from Madrid has shared his experience in the field of public transport with this group of experts, which is currently involved in a project to promote the sustainability of cities in Latin America and the Caribbean: the Initiative for Emerging and Sustainable Cities (ICES).

The welcome at the headquarters of the Consorcio Regional de Transportes has been the responsibility of Don Jesus Valverde, General Manager of the institution. Once there, visitors have attended a presentation about the functions of the agency and the public transport system in Madrid.

Then the delegation visited the Centre for Integrated Public Transport Management (Citram) belonging to the Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid and located in their own building. Visitors were able to learn from the experience of this pioneering center, where the presence of all modes of transport, the ability to give customers multimodal information and participation in the decision making process put it at the forefront of centers integrated major world capitals.

The visit concluded with a meeting in which have been studied possible forms of collaboration between American Development Bank and the Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid. Initiative Emerging and Sustainable Cities is now implementing, born of a pilot project which was launched in 2011, and tries to help cities of Latin America and the Caribbean to identify and prioritize investment projects for sustainable development. The new approach mobilizes and coordinates all of its technical ability to give each city its respective Action Plans interventions identified, ordered, structured and prioritized.

Again, the Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid has been an international reference: Last year alone, the agency served more than 40 foreign delegations were interested in different aspects of the Madrid public transport system. Since early 2013, this institution has been visited by representatives from the five continents, and particularly in the first week of September, the Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid already has hosted delegations from Oslo, Angola, France and Kazakhstan.
