The Community opens Boadilla Green Route, linking the use of bicycles and light rail

The Community of Madrid opened today the Green Route of Boadilla del Monte, the last of the five cycle-pedestrian routes designed by the Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid to unify the use of bicycles and public transport. The managing director of this organization, Jesus Valverde, accompanied by the local mayor, Antonio González Terol, today toured part of this path whose origin and end is in line stations and Light Rail ML3 and also allows  to know important natural areas the municipality.

In total, the route has 17 kilometers circular departing from the station Recinto Ferial de Boadilla to access from there to Fresneda Road. Continues parallel to the M-511 and, after passing through Montepríncipe urbanization and cross the road M-513, reaches the Mount of Encinas. After cross it, the route returns to town, past the Palace Infante Don Luis and the Fountain of Ventura Rodríguez, and ends at the Boadilla Centro station.

"With this initiative -said the head of the consortium- it's encouraging the use of public transport, the bicycle as a transport vehicle that respects the environment and linking nature, culture and sport."

To promote this new route and it is known among local residents, the responsible regional and municipal councilor were accompanied by 60 students from Boadilla Prince Felipe school. This is the first Green Road not located in the capital, although all are based on public transport infrastructure. The rest Green Routes are: asa de Campo, Ciudad Universitaria, Madrid Río and Parque Juan Carlos I.

On this occasion, MLO has also boosted the initiative with the installation of bicycle parking at various points in the line that provides service to Boadilla, specifically in the stations Ferial de Boadilla, Infante Don Luis, Siglo XXI and Puerta de Boadilla. "Thus -Valverde concluded- it's demonstrated the possibility of uniting various modes of transport, they all respect the environment."

The inauguration held today is part of the events planned by the Community in collaboration with various municipalities in the region to celebrate European Mobility Week 2013, whose motto is "Move for cleaner air!"

In this issue, the bikes, to the promotion of green routes and different exhibitions on the benefit of public transport have focused activities, although the goal is awareness that is achieved with these initiatives become protracted social habits in the time.
